Homes in South Florida are certainly not cheap! However, below are 10 great reasons why paying a little extra to live in paradise is well worth it.
1. No More Snow!
Since the 1980’s, the amount of new residents moving to South Florida rises each year. More and more people from all over the world are migrating with hopes and dreams to remain in paradise for good! They are tired of scraping frozen windshields; shoveling snow and bundling into layer after layer of clothing simply to keep warm. Instead, many trade in their closet full of close toed shoes and sweaters for flip-flops and sandals.
2. Feel Better & Look Better
When visiting our sunny region, take a good look around. You may notice how much healthier South Florida residents look opposed to those visiting here temporarily from up north. There are many theories of why Floridians usually look (and are physically) healthier. One of the best reasons would probably have to be the easy access to natural Vitamin-D. That’s right!
According to some of the world’s most influential nutritionists and homeopathic specialists – the best source of Vitamin-D is natural sunlight (within moderation). Secondly, since the weather in South Florida is primarily like Spring and Summer, residents typically remain more physically active than those people living in colder climates.
3. It's Simply Gorgeous!
Almost no matter where you are in South Florida, you will find yourself constantly amazed at the view. Although architectural styles vary throughout the area, most homes and commercial buildings are more than eye-catching with old Spanish, Mediterranean and other historically inspired designs. Most are also garnished with green palm trees, vibrant flowers and other tropical plants. It’s no wonder why so many of these types of views are captured and shared on South Florida postcards.
4. Water, Water and More Water
If your dream is to live near the water – South Florida has got you covered! Whether you’re into fresh water, salt water or both, there is no better place to be. We have the Intracoastal Waterway, the Atlantic Ocean, Lake Okeechobee and other wonderful freshwater lakes and canals which provide the best of both worlds for fishermen, boaters and everyone in between. South Floridians get to enjoy surfing, swimming or just lying on the sand soaking up the sun at our clean, beautiful beaches situated all along the coast.
5. Endless Fairs, Festivals and other Fun Events
Unlike the regions up north where the cold keeps residents shut in throughout the winter months, there is always something going on here in South Florida BECAUSE IT’S WARM! Fairs, festivals and other special events are almost always happening. Some of the most popular are The Ultra Music Festival, Miami Reggae Festival, The South Florida Fair, SunFest, Fourth on Flagler, Moonfest, IndiaFest, Artfest and many more.
Everyone knows that South Florida is the golf capital of the world, but sports fans also have plenty of options all the year through between football with the Miami Dolphins; baseball with the Miami Marlins, Jupiter Hammerheads and Spring Training with the St. Louis Cardinals. There’s also basketball with the Miami Heat and hockey with the Florida Panthers. And if that’s not enough, we have plenty of college teams and more professional leagues in other parts of Florida. Each are just a short drive away. Make a weekend of it!
7. Nightlife & Weekend Get-Aways
No matter what your age, there is something to do at night for just about anyone and everyone who is visiting or living in South Florida. Regardless of what night of the week you are going out to have some fun, there will certainly be entertainment awaiting from the best night clubs to some of the world’s best live concert venues, such as Cruzan Ampitheater and The BB&T Center in Sunrise.
For more upscale entertainment, there is also the Kravis Center, Palm Beach Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Ziff Ballet Opera House, Palm Beach Ballet, Jupiter Maltz Theater and more. And of course, it’s always a good time when visiting South Beach in Miami, Los Olas in Fort Lauderdale or Clematis Street in Downtown West Palm Beach.
“Getting away for the weekend” is easy in South Florida. Whether you’re looking for rest and relaxation or wanting to get “wild n crazy” – take your pick! We’ve got Key West, Key Largo, Saint Augustine, Naples, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Jensen Beach, Tampa and who could forget . . . ORLANDO! Florida residents receive special discounts at Disney World, Universal Studios and all of the other amusement parks.
8. Casinos and Race Tracks
For those with a more daring side, South Florida has some great casinos and race tracks. In Palm Beach County, there is the Palm Beach Kennel Club where you can bet on greyhounds on site, or on horses via satellite. Heading southwest you will find one of the more popular venues in the area, Seminole Hardrock Café. Around here, it’s also known as “The Hardrock”, but there is so much more than just the casino (i.e. concerts, dining, hotel, etc.) Driving a bit further south, is the Flagler Greyhound Track in Miami.
9. Spectacular Restaurants Up and Down the Coast
There are so many great restaurants in South Florida it’s always difficult to make a selection. Probably some of the most popular are those located on the water. Some of my favorite are Waterway in Palm Beach Gardens, Jetty’s in Jupiter, Deck 84 in Delray Beach, Houston’s in Pompano Beach, Bimini Boat Yard Bar & Grill in Fort Lauderdale and SALT Waterfront Restaurant in Key Biscayne (Miami). Whether you are traveling by car or boat, stop on by.
10. Some of the Best Shopping in the World
Just taking a walk through some of the indoor and outdoor shopping malls in South Florida will lift your spirits. The architecture, landscape and out-of-this-world interior design in our shopping malls alone will make you feel like a celebrity. As a matter of fact, don’t be surprised if you find yourself shopping next to a well-known celebrity. That’s right! They live here too.
From small boutique shops downtown to well-known luxury brands along Worth Avenue, shopping in South Florida is like nowhere else. Some of the newest additions to the area are The Palm Beach Outlet Mall in West Palm Beach, Legacy Place in Palm Beach Gardens and Riverwalk in Jupiter.
